A brief history of our Trust
At HandsUp Community Services Trust, we believe in providing a hand up, not a handout—empowering individuals and families to overcome challenges and build a strong foundation for their future.
Founded on the principles of support, advocacy, and resilience, HandsUp was established to assist the most vulnerble people in society- children.
We began with mums self referring for help to navigate through the complexities of government social services. Word got out and we began supporting children, youth and families who were navigating the justice system, social services, and life’s unexpected difficulties.
Our journey began when Sharon Clair, a seasoned advocate and community leader, was approached to support young people and their whānau facing judicial matters. What started as a commitment to a few soon grew into an extensive support network, with Sharon helping over 100 youth and their families through advocacy, mentoring, and practical assistance in our first year.
Today, HandsUp continues to stand by individuals and whānau, with a non judgemental attitude offering tailored support services, guidance, and connections to essential resources. We work alongside communities to foster self-determination, accountability, and long-term success for those in need.
